Basic information in English
Our web site is only in Norwegian, so we have put together some basic information, important links and answers to common questions from foreigners who want to climb in Bergen.
Outdoor climbing
The main season is from april to september, although some times mars and october has good enough weather for some climbing. It rains a lot in Bergen but most of the climbing is situated at Sotra and Øygarden, the islands about 20 km outside Bergen towards the ocean, where the weather is much drier. When it's raining in the city, Sotra may still be dry. The driest weather is normally in april-may. The climbing is mainly on granite, varied and generally of very high quality.
When it's raining, there are two quite safe opportunities: Loddefjord which is a big cave with harder overhanging climbing close to Bergen. Mojavato is also an excellent option, about 90 km south/east of Bergen.

Guidebooks:
• The sports climbing guide consists of all the crags which are mostly bolted. In 2013 the guide covers about 40 crags and 770 routes and it is constantly expanding. This guide is for the time (summer of 2013) only available digitally ("Webfører") as high quality PDF. For the price of 100,- NOK you get access for one year through our web site (requires registration, payment by VISA/Mastercard online).
• For the traditional climbing around Bergen (crags mostly not equipped with bolts) a guide book is available for sale.
• A guidebook for Uskedalen is released the 23. of june 2013.
All physical guidebooks can be bought in our gym at Bergenshallen or the local climbing gear shop Ute.
All routes in our guidebooks are also listed in the crag database on our web site which gives basic information and ability to search for crags and routes by grade and comment on grades and quality. Most of the crags are plotted on a map. All crags and approaches from the sports climbing topo are included in the map.
Indoor climbing
Bergen Climbing club runs two climbing gyms:
Our 16 meter high climbing wall at Landås (Bergenshallen) has about 23 lines and about 50 routes, from vertical to steep overhanging. It may be reached easy by Bybanen if you are not driving a car.
The bouldering gym called Bryggeriet, built in 2013 is situated closer to the city centre.
Check the links for pricing and opening hours.
Accomodation
Basic accomodation in Norway is easy, as we have a law stating the "all-men's-right". This allows you to camp almost anywhere, as long as the land is not cultivated and you are out of eyeshoot from inhabited houses.
